Our Story

Founded in 2022, The Flower Patch began as a dream and now grows seasonal flowers for the local community in Holland, MI and the surrounding areas as an urban, family-run cut flower farm. Even outside the flower growing season, The Flower Patch is hard at work in an effort to expand our offerings. We hope you’ll join us on our journey to share locally grown flowers.

Philosophy

First and foremost, we are flower farmers. Here on the lakeshore, in Holland, Michigan, we care for the soil, nurture the plants, and understand the work—and sweat—that goes into sustaining a local cut flower farm. Weather has become something we read differently, celebrating gentle rain and bracing for every strong wind. Even the bugs have grown on us; we’ve learned which ones help, which ones harm, and continue learning how to keep the balance that keeps our fields thriving.

The choices we make as both farmers and business owners are guided by one priority: caring for the land in a sustainable way. From soil health to reducing plastic waste, we continually look for ways to reuse materials, limit what we throw away, and grow with intention. These practices allow to us to offer sustainable, locally grown flowers to those in West Michigan.

Every flower we cut and every arrangement we design carries hours of tending, observing, and bringing nature forward at its best. Our hope is that when you bring our seasonal bouquets into your home or use our DIY buckets for your event, you feel the beauty we’ve nurtured and grown with care.

Owner/Farmer-Florist

Before I began growing flowers I worked in international education overseas. While working in my office job I discovered the joy of weekly flowers delivered to my office. When my husband and I moved our family back to the states and settled in Michigan, I was overjoyed to finally have some land to work with (instead of a high-rise porch) and immediately put in a flower garden. Now my goal is to share the joy flowers have to offer with others.

Though most of the work is done by myself, occasionally you’ll find my husband, Kevin, or our kids helping with tasks here and there.
